The Name
Why 'The First Counsel'.
In the profession’s own language, counsel is both the advice and the adviser — the thing given and the person who gives it. First carries three meanings, and we intend all of them: the first call a client makes when it matters; the first-chair standard of advocacy we bring to every brief; and the old rule of this house — that the client’s interest comes first, before the firm’s, always.
The definite article is a promise of singularity. Not a first counsel. The first counsel.
